Today I learned how to draw my name in tradition Japanese characters with calligraphy ink and brushes. Our teacher loved my name! She is playing Jo in a production of Little Women. She kept referring to me as "My Jo".
However, my name became a problem when trying to figure how to spell it in Japanese. "Jocasta" was way to difficult...so Jo was picked. Then they had to figure out the characters. After whipping out a dictionary and an electronic translator, "JO" was discovered.
The teacher drew it out first, then I had several attempts to copy her work.
Here she is giving me stroke by stroke instructions.
I was able to make four different drawings!
Here is Sarah, me and the Mercer students finished works of art!
Very nice!
